Animal management
Good husbandry practices, effective routines and species specific social groupings can promote positive animal welfare and help to maintain a happy and productive team.
Great Ape Consultancy can advise on a number of animal management areas from developing a stable routine, introducing a fission-fusion system or incorporating choice and control methods into your husbandry practices. We can increase capacity by training staff in alternative ways to manage individuals or groups of great apes depending on the needs of the animals and the facility.
We can also help you manage moves and transfers of great apes, whether individuals or in groups.
Moving 8 bonobos in one day
In 2019 eight bonobos were transfrerred between two facilities in Europe and the UK. This move was due to take place within a single day and required an immense amount of planning and preperation as well as teamwork to complete.
